BC Applause is a significant commitment but, as a group, we have certain priorities:

That's why we're getting such a late start this fall. Work on the play usually begins during the second week of school, with performances in early November. But this year I needed to put family first. My mom was in an accident and has been in ICU since Sept. 17th. I spent almost a month in Oklahoma helping out my family. Fortunately, my mom is slowly recovering.

We all have lives outside of theatre and, while we count on each other to attend rehearsals and performances, I understand that sometimes things come up. If you  have a conflict, just let me know. There's a definite possibility that we make adjustments or find some work around. In the past, a student thought they'd have to miss a performance due to a family event. Not at all! I gave them permission to be later than the stated call time and gave their grown-up my cell phone number to let me know if they were delayed for any reason.

All that to say that there are many ways to support each other on stage and my hope is for that support to extend beyond the theatre.

The Saturday Night Live production process takes place over a six-day period -- an entire show from start to finish in less than a week! To read all about it, check out the SNL Wiki.

​Our version of the popular sketch comedy show, Saturday Knights Live, isn't quite that ambitious. While we do come up with an entire middle-school appropriate set of skits, we take about a month to write and rehearse. For 2024, here's our schedule:

• Friday, May 10th – Introduction and Sketch Brainstorming (writers only)
• Tuesday, May 14 – Sketch Selection and Writing (writers only)
• Friday, May 17 – Writing Continued (writers only)
• Tuesday, May 21 – Table Read & Rewrites (writers and actors)
• Friday, May 24 – Rehearsal (writers and actors)
• Tuesday, May 28 – Rehearsal (writers, actors, and crews)
• Friday, May 31 – Tech/Dress Rehearsal (all call)
• Saturday, June 1 – SHOW NIGHT!

The show is one night only so save the date!

We're one week from opening night...

Just a few reminders about Dress Rehearsal this Sunday, Feb. 25:

• Arrive by 11:00 AM. Take all your stuff to the small gym and sign in. The kick-off meeting starts at 11:05. 
  • If you get sick and can't make it to Dress Rehearsal, fill out the Rehearsal Absence Form on our website.
• Wear show blacks: 
  • Crew: black, navy, or other dark color shirt, pants, socks, and shoes.
  • Featured Dancers and Ancestors: form-fitting black shirt or tank top, black pants or leggings or bike shorts, black socks, black shoes
  • Leads: The same as the ensemble unless you've been told otherwise
• Things to bring:
  • lunch, a snack and your water bottle
  • something quiet to do while waiting
  • your script
  • patience -- there's a lot of hurry-up-and-wait in theatre and, especially this close to the show, tensions can be high. 

Also, so we're all clear on the rules:

• No hitting -- not even play hitting. No spitting, no biting, no scratching. This is not negotiable and could result in you being sent home from rehearsal.
• No leaving the auditorium or small gym without a hall pass (except for light crew assigned to the booth or spots).
• If it's not yours, don't touch it. Especially cell phones and props.
• Leave personal items and food backstage. This includes phones, hairbrushes, purses, books, computers, etc.. Personal items are not allowed in the wings, the sound booth, the tech booth, or on stage. Food will only be allowed in the designated snack area in the small gym.
• If lights go out, stand still and listen for further instructions. Please do not scream.
• Practice your lines or choreography during down times.
• Pay attention to what's going on and be ready for your cue to go on stage. (Note: No one will come get you during the show. If you miss your cue, you miss that scene.)
• Keep track of your stuff. Put it in your backpack instead of leaving it on the floor where it can get stepped on.
