Dress Rehearsal - Feb. 23rd

Please arrive at school by 11:00 AM with the following:

Water bottle
Lunch -- we won't break for lunch but you can eat on your down time.
Snack Script
Something quiet to do.

Cast Members should also bring:

Dance shoes.
Whatever costume pieces costume crew asked you to provide.
Black leggings and a tight black tank top.

When you arrive, go straight to the small gym to get your costume and, if you speak in Act 1, a mic. Then meet in the auditorium to get started. As soon as the band arrives at noon, we're running the show. The goal is to be done by 4:00 PM but we'll go later if we're not done.

Rehearsals, Homework & Costumes, Oh My!

Rehearsals

This week we start running the entire show, with all cast and all crew every day. Here's the plan:

Tuesday, Feb. 18th - Act 2, Scenes 9, 10, 11, 12
Wednesday, Feb. 19th - Act 1, Scenes 1, 2, 3, 4
Thursday, Feb. 20th - Act 2, Scenes 13, 14, 15, 16
Friday, Feb. 21st - Act 1, Scenes 5, 6, 7, 8

Be in your place on stage ready for the curtain to go up by 3:15. We're running the scenes straight through then will take a five minute break so I can speak with the other coaches to plan for trouble-shooting during the remaining time. Everyone is expected to stay until 5:30.

NOTE: If you can't attend a rehearsal you must let Mrs. Knight know, preferably by email. Because we're in the final days before the curtain goes up, unexcused absences could jeopardize your part in the show.

Homework

Cast Members

watch the dance videos.
write (or type) any lyrics/lines you're not sure of on a piece of paper. Scripts will not be allowed on stage but you can use a "cheat sheet."

Everyone, Cast and Crews:

read all of the Director's Notes.

Costumes

Since we'll be trying costumes this week, cast members should please bring the following:

Mermaids, Tigers, Monkeys & other IFs

Black plain legging
Tight black t-shirt (long or short sleeve but no logos!)
Black “show shoes” flats or jazz shoes

Jet Planes

Black Pants
Black Shirt
Black Shoes (no sneakers)

Students (Big Kids, New Kids, Named Kids)

Undershirt/tank top (nothing scandalous - you may be wearing just the tank at some point)
Black leggings or opaque black tights
“School shoes” - black/brown/tan flats, no sneakers

Parents and Teachers

Underclothes (spandex shorts and t-shirt or tank)
Teacher/Parent shoes - sensible flats except for Miss Stoker (boots) and Mr. Gruntt (sneakers)

Brendettes, Muttley, Chutney, Frankie

Black plain leggings
Plain bright solid color or stripe t-shirt (no logos)
Shoes - colorful canvas converse or vans but any bright, colorful flat will work.

Big Brenda

Light colored underclothes (spandex shorts and t-shirt or tank)
Show Shoes - coordinate with Ms. Moser

Crew Members (Tech, Stage, and Costume)

Black pants
Black shoes (can be black sneakers but any color will need to be covered by black tape)
Uniform t-shirts will be provide for a nominal fee

Schedule Updates for Crews

2/11/2020

I just updated the schedule for all crews.

Tech Crew will not meet today but instead on Thursday.
Costume Crew will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Stage Crew is not mandatory to attend, but is encouraged in order to help out and learn their transitions.

Schedule for the Week of Feb. 10th

Well, yesterday's tech rehearsal was exactly as we thought it would be: bumpy, painful, and frustrating. Between stuck doors, broken set pieces, non-functioning sound systems, and illness, nothing seemed to go right. But, to quote a favorite song of mine from Kiss Me, Kate:

For weeks, you rehearse and rehearse,
Three weeks and it couldn't be worse.
One week, will it ever be right?
Then out o' the hat, it's that big first night!
The overture is about to start,
You cross your fingers and hold your heart,
It's curtain time and away we go,
Another op'nin', another show

So it looks like we're actually right on schedule!

We have roughly three weeks until opening night. Yes, there's a lot to do between now and then. But I know we can do it!

Today we worked on Scene 9 and the "machine" for Scene 12 (which will build up to the machine in the headmaster's office and the doomsday device in Scene 15) and it looks pretty good. Check out the schedule for what we're doing the rest of the week.
